A team at Google is working on a version of Android designed for virtual reality devices, according to the Wall Street Journal. There are ‘tens’ of engineers working on the new operating system, which will be distributed at no charge, said the magazine’s sources.

Samsung has said that pre-orders for its new Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge smartphones have reached record levels. 20 million orders had been placed by mobile operators at the end of the weekend following MWC: 15 million for the S6 and 5 million for the S6 Edge.
Sony has licensed Microvision’s PicoP laser beam scanning (LBS) pico projector technology. The company will pay an $8 million upfront license fee, as well as royalty payments. Microvision and Sony have been working together since April 2013.
Chughwa Picture Tubes (CPT) reported a 21.4% month on month and 18.4% year on year fall in sales last month to NT$3.8 billion ($120.2 million). An American company, Thumbs Up!, has introduced its own VR headset – although it doesn’t have a display. In the style of Google Cardboard the Samsung’s Gear VR, the Immerse Virtual Reality Headset is compatible with ‘most’ Android phones and iPhones and includes 360° head tracking.
