Sources in the Asian supply chain say that Samsung has secured orders for processors for the Apple Watch, using its 28nm technology. The orders require 3,000 – 4,000 12″ wafers monthly. The processor will be housed in Apple’s S system-in-package, supposedly produced by Advanced Semiconductor Engineering.
United Microelectronics (UMC) reported sales of NT$12.2 billion ($384.8 million) in December, up 5.8% from November and 23.2% higher than December 2013. Last month’s result brought sales for the year to NT$140 billion ($4.4 billion), 13.1% ahead of 2013.

NHK will conduct live 8k test transmissions at the Sapporo Snow Festival in Japan. Between 5th and 11th February, NHK will use 8k cameras and equipment to capture the snow and ice sculptures at the event. The transmissions will be shown on a 135″ and 85″ display.
