Taiwan’s MIC says that shipments of large-area TFT-LCD panels, for notebooks, monitors and TVs, reached 148.8 million units in Q1’15. This is a 4.1% QoQ fall. Asus has said that it accounted for more than half of notebook and desktop PC sales in Taiwan in June. Citing data from an unnamed research firm, Asus said that it had a 50.9% share of the domestic notebook market (compared to 33.1% of its second place rival) and 53.3% in desktops (compared to 34%).
Worldwide semiconductor sales reached $84 billion in Q2’15: a 2% YoY and 1% QoQ increase. Xiaomi and Huawei were China’s most popular smartphone vendors in Q2’15, says Canalys. The two companies had market shares of 15.9% and 15.7%, respectively, covering a combined third of the market. The other top vendors were Apple, Samsung and Vivo.
Mediatek has revised its handset-IC shipment target for this year, from 450 million units to 400 million. The company has also cut its tablet-IC target by 10%, to 45 million units.
