Vioso is a name that was familiar to us and it took a while to work out why! It was because we bumped into the company with its partner, Antycip, at the Laval Virtual event last month. At ITEC, the firm had its own booth and was showing its camera-based calibration system for blending and warping of multi-channel display systems. Because the company uses its own box for the process, the system can be fed with a simple Windows desktop, so “any application” can be supported. We asked ‘”How many channels” – “Oh, around 80” was the reply, so capacity to support big installations is not a concern!
As well as marine, automotive and aviation simulators, Vioso works in applications including cinematic and cultural dome displays. It has created a number of events in the desert in countries including Egypt, where the huge variation in temperature can cause real issues in dome shape. The camera system is very fast, allowing rapid re-alignment for different events. Among the firm’s most demanding applications have been a 50m dome in Oslo and a planetarium in Toulouse that uses ten 4K projectors. The firm told us that planetariums are incredibly demanding in terms of accuracy and focus.
Vioso builds its own image generators.
