Microchip Technology has said it will not be making an offer for UK-based chipmaker CSR. In September the US company was reported to have approached CSR with an acquisition offer (Display Monitor Vol 21 No 25), having previously rejected a preliminary offer as too low.

After much to-ing and fro-ing regarding the use of the 700MHz spectrum, UK regulator Ofcom has said that it will make the band available for mobile broadband services. Ofcom plans to achieve its aim by early 2022, or possibly as early as 2020. DTT services, meanwhile, will move to the 600MHz spectrum.
Panasonic has expanded the recall of Toughbook H2 battery packs in the USA, which it began earlier this year. Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing (TSMC) has paid $85 million to acquire a factory in northern Taiwan from Qualcomm. TSMC said in a filing on the Taiwan Stock Exchange that it has bought the plant for “production purposes”.
