Asian sources say that JOLED is to begin test operations of a new OLED manufacturing facility next spring. Mass production, of panels between 10″ and 30″, will begin in 2018 or 2020. Around €150 million will be invested in the new plant.
The Merian Iselin clinic, in Basel, Switzerland, has adopted one of NEC’s 84″ X841UHD displays, for use in its radiology department. In addition, the hospital has taken on various 32″ monitors from NEC for diagnostic use throughout the building.
Microsoft, Inc. reported a flat net profit of $4.6 billion for Q1 2016, flat from $4.5 billion YoY, in spite of a turnover decline of 12% YoY to $20.3 billion from $23.2 billion. Mexico’s Instituto Federal de Telecomunicaciones has confirmed that the country will complete ASO this year. 89% of the country can now access one DTT frequency channel, and 76% can access four channels. However, commercial broadcaster Televisa has recommended postponing switch-off until more households have DTT receivers.
26,000 new satellite customers joined DirecTV in the USA in Q3, following the company’s acquisition by AT&T. However, with the focus on satellite, DirecTV’s U-verse IPTV subscribers fell 91,000. The company ended the quarter with 25.4 million video subscribers.
