Munich airport has announced that it has a plan to expand the floor area of the Terminal 1 building by 80,000 m² at a cost of €400 million. The expansion will add six million travellers to the airport capacity and will add a pier to support up to 12 aircraft, including two Airbus A380 superjumbos. The capacity boost is around the same as an airport the size of Hannover. Construction will start in 2018 and go on to 2022 at least.

Munich airport is already busy and, as we have reported before, it sees itself as a ‘destination’ facility that hosts concerts and other events. It’s also the only airport that we know that has its own microbrewery. There are lots of touch displays and other displays at the airport.
