Mixed Reality Comes to Shakespeare

The BBC has reported on a project at the historic Royal Shakespeare Company’s theatre in Stratford-upon-Avon in the UK that uses mixed reality. Along with live actors, a production of “The Tempest” includes an avatar that flies around the stage and that is operated in real time using an actor using a motion capture suit. As well as the avatar, the production uses a wide range of projection mapping techniques to create backdrops. The BBC’s reporter was more impressed with this technology than with the avatar!
