Leyard Previews New Rental LEDs & Updates to add Video Processing

Leyard/Planar had plenty to show at the event. The first thing we looked at was a new processor, the Leyard DirectLight X controller has now been upgraded to add support for UltraHD and 4K video signals, supporting HDMI 2.0 and DisplayPort V1.2. The DirectLight LED system has been available for a while, but the new controller helps Leyard to supply complete systems including Leyard WallDirector software. Features include scaling and PiP as well as monitoring the video. It also supports Cat6 to distribute video signals and fibre support is an option.

The company said that the system of DirectLight X and Video Controller is the first system on the market to integrate a remote power supply and high end video processing.

Leyard has been looking closely at CoB, as it has been one of the key developers of the finest pitch LEDs – it was demonstrating 0.7mm pitch at Infocomm – but is not yet entirely happy about the performance and cost yet. As a development, like others, it now has a resin-coating technology which is helping to boost contrast and improving the viewing angle while making the LEDs more robust. The resin has been applied on the firm’s TWS 1.2mm LEDs and adds around 10% to the cost of the displays.

The company was showing support for HDR with 10 bit colour.

The TVF series was shown in Barcelona when we visited, but Infocomm marked the US launch of the product.

The company had a preview of new VVR rental cabinets that will be 50cm x 50cm and operate using magnets to secure the modules to the cabinet. The cabinets can be secured using fast locks. The products will be available from 2.5mm and up for indoor use and from 2.9mm up to 10mm for outdoor applications.

The company is also boosting its LCD video wall options and had the new G3 Clarity video wall products that we reported on from ISE. (Leyard Hits New Smaller Pitch).
