The Maeil Business News reported that Samsung plans to launch TVs above 80″ as it competes against LG’s OLED technology with its QD-based LCD TVs which are available up to 77″. The company has not regularly made TVs in that size range apart from one offs for trade shows.
Samsung has started to offer its ‘The Frame’ TVs in 55″ and 65″ in the Norwegian and Swiss markets, with Germany and Austria due to get the sets later. The sets also have a page on the UK website, with email registration of interest. Pricing for the 55″ is €2,199 and €2,999 for the 65″. Shuttle has released the DS77U series which is a fanless system using 7th gen Intel Celeron dual core processors up to Core i7, with four options. The systems can support UltraHD resolutions (at 60fps via DisplayPort and 30fps via HDMI) and are 40mm thick. Maximum memory is 32GB and connectivity is via DisplayPort and dual HDMI, which can all be used simultaneously at FullHD. Wi-fi is supported at 802.11 b/g/n and there is a hardware ethernet port.
Pricing is from €273 to €808.
Panasonic has started to ship the EZ1000 that the company is supplying in Europe, but not in the US, and that it showed at CES this year. (Panasonic Upgrades OLED HDR TV – but Not for North America). The 65″ will cost £6,000 (€7,000) ($6,500 + tax). There will be a 77″ version later in the year and a cheaper version is also expected later. The UK version will be known as the EZ1002 and the European version, EZ1004.
Hisense is starting to ship the range of TVs that it showed at CES (Hisense Focuses on LaserCast TV and HDR-compatible Models). The first models to ship will be edge-lit, with direct-lit models coming later. For pricing and details, check the Hisense release.
