Realtek has joined with Celeno Communications to develop a joint reference design for a ‘4K’ STB. The design uses Celeno’s CL2440 4×4 802.11ac wave 2 Wi-Fi chip and Realtek’s RTD1295 SoC. The companies say that the aim was to develop an ultra small form factor device and Celeno said that there is no need for an external antenna. The design uses Smart Antenna Steering (SAS) technology which allows for smart antenna arrays to increase diversity and overall Wi-Fi performance for flicker free video.
