Eutelsat and Tricolor TV are working together to deploy a network in Russia using SmartBeam, Eutelsat’s new multi-screen video delivery tool. SmartBeam uses a small satellite receiver, acting as a local CDN, to receive content via satellite and serve it locally to multiple devices, including mobiles, over WiFi.
Analyst Comment
SmartBeam is similar to but not the same as Sat>IP, which carries a DVB satellite, via IP, to other screens in the home. SmartBeam broadcasts IP-native video over satellite to a local network; the content is then distributed to other devices. (TA)
