David McQueen of Strategy Analytics said that only around 3% of British households will have a VR headset in the next year, with 92% of those being based on smartphone-based units. The company also said that it expected 7% of sales will be attached to consoles and just 1% will be PC-connected (e.g. Rift/Vive). The value of the market is estimated at £62 million. McQueen said that the market would see a ‘slow burn’.
Penetration of the market will develop, with 10% by the end of 2017, rising to nearly 20% in 2018 and 27% in 2019. By 2020, a third of UK adults will have a VR headset.
