Socionext Develops Small, Low Power 4K/60p HEVC Codec

Socionext introduced the SC2M50, a new HEVC/H.265 encoding chip. The package is a 25mm square device with consumes 3.5W. The chip supports 4K/60p video and 4:2:2 format with 10 bit colour depth. Samples will become available in May, with volume in October 2017. The firm hopes that the device will be used in fixed and portable equipment and it will show the chip at NAB.
