SMPTE 2017 Looks Forward to 8K

The Society of Motion Picture and TV Engineers (or SMPTE), held its annual Technical Conference in Hollywood from the 23rd to the 26th of October. The event attracted 2,500 registered attendees and there were 105 exhibitors. Attendance was the highest in more than a decade.

Chris went along and published some highlights in his DIsplay Daily (Highlights from the 2017 SMPTE Conference) and now we have his full report. The event always looks ahead at the trends in the technology side of the cinema and TV business and a big topic this year was 8K, although there is still plenty to do in 4K and UltraHD with frame rates, HDR and colour.

Next year, the event will move away from Hollywood, but not that far, to the Westin Bonaventure in Los Angeles, where it will be from the 22nd to the 25th of October next year, and where it will stay until 2020 at least.
