SIM2 Launches xTV Laser Projector

As we have noted many times, the Laser TV category featuring an ultra short throw projector mounted below a screen in a living room scenario is a hot topic – especially in China. The concept, pioneered by LG and Appotronics a few years ago, has led to many copycat products. SIM2 now joins the parade.

The xTV uses a 1080p DLP chip set and a laser phosphor engine. There are actually two RGB color wheels inside to help create well filtered RGB light. The result is 2900 lumens in a rec. 709 color gamut to create a nice bright 110” image at a distance of 12” (30cm)

“The concept of SIM2xTV is to create a new sales opportunity for integrators who wish to offer their clients an invisible high-performance video solution,” stated SIM2 USA VP of Sales Adam Gold. “The industrial design of this new model is absolutely beautiful, featuring a trapezoidal chassis topped with a crystal glass surface with a sophisticated optical coating. There is nothing quite like SIM2xTV available on the market,” Gold added.

He is right. The styling is quite beautiful and the product can be sold as a stand-alone piece or integrated seamlessly into furniture. The tempered cover glass is also unique and presented a tough optical problem for SIM2 as the angles to the edge of the screen are quite sharp, which can lead to total internal reflection inside the cover glass if not compensated for. An 18-layer coating was developed to address this issue.

As part of a brand revitalization initiative for the US market, SIM2 has created new dealer-friendly service and support policies to establish themselves as dedicated channel partners for professional integrators. SIM2 will be establishing an exclusive dealer network and providing extensive support and training seminars. The SIM2xTV features a 2-year parts/labor warranty and 30-day advance replacement.

The SIM2xTV is available now through authorized SIM2 dealers with a US MSRP of $15K or $18K for the built-in model. – CC
