Short Supply Boosts Panel Prices

TV panels in 32″, 40″, 42″, 48″ and 50″ sizes increased in price by between $1 and $2 at the beginning of December. According to DisplaySearch, this was largely due to increased demand due to a push by Samsung to meet expected demand in Q1’15. The price of 32″ open-cell TV panels also rose by 22% – 25%, to $94. The 32″ panel size is in relatively short supply as panel makers focus on larger, high-end units. At the same time, the price of 21.5″ and 23″ monitor panels rose by $0.10 – $0.20, while 13.3″, 14″, 15.6″ and 17.3″ notebook panels rose $0.20 – $0.60.

We have heard reports that in the US during Black Friday, there was a significant move from 32″ to 40″/42″ as the most popular size, so the short supply may not be long-lived. (BR)
