Russian Ministry of Communications Discussing DTH Changes

Russia’s Ministry of Communications may soon approve a legal clause that dictates that satellite operators must provide access to the country’s 20 main TV channels for free, apart from a one-off payment to access their service. This will mean that homes in Russia that don’t have access to DTT services will be able to view the channels and may be encouraged to switch to a paid DTH service.

Earlier this year, Digital TV News predicted that Russia will account for half of all pay TV subscriptions in Eastern Europe by 2023.
