Report: Spanish Telco Providers Want More Ultra HD Content

Telecommunications providers in Spain are reportedly demanding more in the way of Ultra HD content, particularly sporting events, according to Spanish news publication El Español, as reported by Advanced Television.

Mediaset, the Spanish rights holder for this year’s World Cup, recently announced that it has no plans to broadcast the competition in UHD, which was deemed a major setback for the Ultra HD market in the country. The report also highlighted data from SES Astra, which shows that currently, Ultra HD TVs are only in 10% of Spanish homes. Despite this, several providers are still targeting UHD in their services, including Vodafone and Telefónica.
