A report from APIT in Portugal, detailed on Advanced Television.com said that pay TV is gaining in popularity and reaching 42% in 2015. The majority of viewers (56%) still rely on FTA DTT content. Fiber-based IPTV has been the main growth area, reaching 3.5 million (up 29.5%) in 2015. Mobile device viewing was just 9.7%.
Analyst Comment
A separate report put the US at the top of the list for content providers. Brazil is the third largest provider. Although Switzerland ranked highly, this is because FIFA, which sells the rights to soccer, is based in the country. France and the UK make up the top five. (BR)
