What They Say
Panasonic’s Shiftall subsidiary has showed the most recent versions of its MeganeX VR headset which has:
- Dual 2560 x 2560 1.3″ displays @120Hz with HDR
- FOV is said to be ‘a bit wider than the Quest 2’
- inside-out & outside-in tracking
- SteamVR compatibility
There is a video on Twitter here and the unit was shown at the recent AWE Europe event – there is another video here.
It will be available in December in Japan and the US. Price is TBA because of increasing BOM cost this year.
The firm said earlier this year (Shiftall Introduces MaganeX, World’s First 5.2K High-Dynamic-Range Virtual-Reality Glasses at CES 2022 Incorporating Kopin’s 2.6K x 2.6K OLED Displays and All-Plastic Pancake Optics) that the display and optics are from Kopin.
What We Think
At CES, the prototype was said to use microOLEDs for the displays along with pancake optics, which Panasonic has been showing for some time. (BR)
