Apple Withdraws From Russia
Due to the financial instability in Russia, Apple has halted sales of its products in the country. The company said that its online store has closed in Russia because the fluctuating currency value makes it too difficult to set prices.
Helsinki University Chooses Sony
17 Sony laser projectors have been purchased by the University of Helsinki, in Finland. Performance, reliability and total lifetime ownership costs were the main reason for choosing the 10 VPL-FHZ55 and seven VPL-FHZ700L projectors.
Roundabout Invests in Leader for Content Creation
Film and TV production support company Roundabout Entertainment has taken on one of Leader’s LV5490 UltraHD waveform monitors. The unit was adopted due to the growing interest in high-resolution content creation, according to Roundabout; technical manager Stuart Clark said, “[UltraHD] is now the logical resolution for any new production project”.
QD Forum Set for March
The Quantum Dots Forum 2015 will be held on 16th and 17th March in San Francisco. It is an event dedicated to QDs, described as the only one in the USA. Companies in attendance will include 3M, Merck, Apple, Samsung, Nanoco, Quantum Materials Corporation and QD Vision.

Microsoft Invites to ‘Next Chapter’ of Windows
Microsoft will be holding an event to unveil the ‘next chapter’ of Windows 10 on 21st January. Several executives, including CEO Satya Nadella, will be present at the event (at Microsoft’s headquarters in Redmond, California). It is thought that the consumer preview will be launched on the day. A mobile device UI is also expected.

Intel Takes to the High Seas
Royal Carribean’s new vessel, Quantum of the Seas, is the world’s first ‘smartship’. Part of the reason for this is the 15,000 Dell Venue tablets positioned around the ship at point-of-sale locations. 40,000 tablets, built by Hexa Electronics, have also been supplied to the crew as a way to stay connected with friends and family.

Apple 1 Misses Estimate at Auction
A working Apple 1 computer has been sold in London for ‘only’ $365,000. Admittedly this is many times the price of most modern PCs, but is less than the Christie’s valuation of $400,000 – $600,000, and well below the $905,000 that another Apple 1 sold for earlier this year (Display Monitor Vol 21 No 43).
