Opera Intends to Sell TV Business

Opera Software has announced that it is to sell off its TV business; a move that is being taken ‘in order for the TV business to achieve its full potential under a different ownership structure’.

The sale is part of a ‘broader strategic review’, said Opera, adding that China’s Golden Brick Silk Road was aware of Opera’s intent before it made its takeover bid of $1.2 billion in February.

Opera’s TV software has been used by vendors including Hisense, Samsung and Sharp in the past.
