At NAB Planar (Leyard) showed a new LED video wall at IBC that has 1.2mm pitch and can be built into video walls up to 196@ diagonal. A unique feature is the new patent-pending Leyard PLTS (Pliable LED Touch Surface) technology which allows 32 simultaneous touch points. The non-glass anti-glare surface is smooth and flat and is said to avoid trapping heat in the way that glass does.
Planar also said that the new design makes cleaning easier and provides an anti-static surface. It said that the lightweight touch surface can easily be removed and then reapplied, making it easy to service. It is also straightforward to clean, requiring only a simple cleaner and cloth.
The displays are available in three standard sizes, 108″, 151″ and 196″ and uses an optical touch frame. The company said that the surface does not impact the ability to make pixel-level repairs.

The technology, as you would expect, is infrared optical and the surface, which is designed to work over the standard Planar/Leyard 54″ cabinets, can be removed for maintenance or replacement of the cabinets. A 196″ system costs around $250,000 but with structure, cables and installation, the cost, we heard, is likely to be nearer $300,000.
