KVMs Important in ATC

The ATC industry, of course, has to have a lot of resilience and so KVMs to support duplicate and redundant systems are very important. There were several suppliers at the show and we spoke to Guntermann & Drunck GmbH (G&D) about an 8K 60P fibre-based KVM that it developed last year. As with the early days of 4K, it developed the product with a tiled approach, so there are four UltraHD streams which are synchronised.

The company said that, of course, reliability is absolutely critical in this application and so established suppliers with an installed base have a key advantage.

One of the features that the firm has is a ‘freeze’ function. If the graphic signal is interrupted, the image is retained on the display and a red warning appears, showing how long the display image has been frozen to help the controller estimate what the current position might be.
