Kopin’s New Milestone in MicroLED Display Development

Kopin has successfully created a high brightness monochrome MicroLED display. The initial production verification samples for the 1″ diagonal 2K x 2K MicroLED display, with a resolution of 2048 x 2048, have reached brightness levels exceeding 2.8 million nits. The company aims to further enhance this brightness to a range of 3.2-3.5 million nits in its production displays.

In the realm of augmented reality (AR) applications, micro-displays necessitate high brightness levels to ensure clear and sharp image quality. This is particularly crucial when the AR devices are used under bright daylight conditions or in applications where see-through capability is required. As such, the industry considers inorganic light-emitting diode technology (MicroLED or µLED) as a pivotal innovation for future displays, especially in AR systems. These MicroLED displays are specifically designed to cater to high-performance defense and AR applications.
