JVC Adds HDR Monitors

JVC Professional Video, a division of JVCKenwood USA Corp., used NAB to announce two new 4K studio LCD monitors along with four new FullHD monitors.

The 28″ DT-U28U and 31.5″ DT-U31U feature native 4K LCD panels with 3840 x 2160 resolution, LED backlight, wider color gamut, with HLG and PQ HDR support. Both monitors feature multiple 4K inputs, including 12G-SDI, 3G-SDI quad link, 4K/60p HDMI 2.0, and optional plug-in SFP adaptor. Users can also display four independent SDI sources in quad view mode, and there are extensive connectivity options for legacy sources. The DT-U31E supports 100% DCI-P3 and 84% ITU-R BT.2020 color gamut, while the DT-U28E supports 100% Rec.709 and 80% DCI-P3 color gamut.

Representatives in the booth could not say much more about the monitors. Luminance, for example, is still not determined, nor is the number of dimmable zones. They do offer Waveform/Vector/Histogram capabilities, remote control via the web, plus 3D LUT auto calibration. However, JVC is not calling these grade 1 reference monitors.

The 2K monitors can accept a 4K/60 HDMI and 2K SDI signals and will be offered in sizes ranging from 17.3 to 27″. Each 8-bit panel has 10-bit signal processing and LED backlight, with the three largest models offering 1000:1 contrast ratio. Nice features include a new zero latency image processing mode with only a few lines of delay, which is ideal for lip sync monitoring, and a 17 x 17 x 17 3D LUT for precise auto calibration. There is a built-in color generator and calibration software, and support for user uploaded 3DLUT cube files, which are convenient for color creation in post. Plus, with several built-in De-log LUTs (including JVC J-log1), the monitors can convert directly to ITU-Rec.709.
