At the end of the first quarter, Italy had 431 TV channels available via the main distribution platforms DTT and DTH, according to a report by Confindustria Radio Televisioni.
Of the 431, 366 are produced in Italy, of which 128 are available on DTT. Of the remaining, 294 are distributed via satellite (FTA and pay-TV). Included in this figure are 40 time-shifted channels and 36 pay-per-view services.
Technology-wise, 259 TV channels are transmitted in standard definition, and 105 in HD, of which 28 are free-to-air. One of the channels is in super HD and another in 3D.
There are 130 FTA channels, of which 98 are available DTT and 63 on the Tivusat DTH platform. Also. 236 are pay-TV, of which 207 are distributed by Sky Italia and 30 by Mediaset Premium.
The main channel producers are Sky Italia with 119 channels, Mediaset with 39 channels, RAI with 26, Fox International Channels Italy with 24, Discovery Italia with 21, Viacom Media Italia with 13, and Walt Disney Italia with 11 channels.
