Ikegami was showing a range of UltraHD cameras and monitors. There were also two new entry level monitors in 31″ and 17″. The larger one has 4096 x 2160 resolution with 350 cd/m² of output, while the smaller one has and 300 cd/m², and with 1,500:1 contrast. The panel is IPS and the monitor features are the same between the units, which support 12G SDI and HDR. The 3840 costs ‘around £3,500’.
The company has previously shown its 1,000,000:1 contrast, 1,000 cd/m² HQLM-3125X at last year’s show and at NAB. It is now getting close to production and pricing has been set at €45,000.
Ikegami has been involved in a project with Loewe and the Hochschule RheinMain to develop a system to analyse incoming HDR video content and mapping it to SDR. The company told us that it can remap 14 stops of contrast to 8 stops. As well as re-mapping the luminance, the technology deals with chrominance correctly (a year of research was spent just on this aspect). The processing is separately done for 144 zones on the image. The application described showed a sports commentator in shade against a brightly lit sports field.
The technology should be available at the end of 2018 and can be operated in real time as hardware implementations are being developed.
