HP launches new Thunderbolt G4 Dock

What They Say

HP has a new Thunderbolt dock range, the G4. It features dual DisplayPort 1.4 outputs as well as HDMI 2.0, USB-C (with DisplayPort alt mode) and Thunderbolt 4 ports to support up to four displays. Power options are 120W and 280W from a single cable, in different models in the range. The box features a ‘tap’ feature – tap the top of the box to power down the host laptop and re-start it with another tap.

What We Think

I recently wrote an article about the DisplayPort cable labels. I realised that it gets very confusing. It’s simple if you are connecting two DisplayPort devices. But you could also be running Thunderbolt 4 or USB Type-C with Alt mode. To complicate it even further, you can run DisplayPort via ThunderBolt (BR)
