IHS predicts a massive rise in HDR TV set shipments over the coming years, forecasting 2.9 million shipments in 2016 – growing to 32.6 million in 2019. The forecasts only covers sets meeting the criteria specified by the UHD Alliance.
Next year will mark the beginning of HDR’s toehold in mainstream set shipments. However, rapid growth will not occur until 2017, when 12.5 million HDR TVs are expected to be shipped.
“As with other new technologies, we expect that the Chinese consumer will be in the forefront of adoption”, said IHS analyst Paul Gray, “while HDR is expected to make up the largest share of UHD TV sets in the Japanese market, due to that country’s lead in broadcast UHD services”.
