HbbTV Not Taking Off in France

Philippe LererQuadrille business manager Philippe Lerer has gone on record to say that HbbTV isn’t taking off in France, according to Broadband TV News. Speaking on a panel at the Hispasat Innovation Day in London, United Kingdom, Lerer maintained that HbbTV is “a great technology” and acknowledged its popularity in Germany.

Media Broadcast’s Bernd Meinl also mentioned hybrid TV at another panel earlier in the day, saying that it offers up possibilities to broadcasters but said that “GDPR and how it will affect us” is now the pressing question on everyone’s lips.

Verimatrix sales director Sergio Calabrese mentioned a new partnership between his company and Hispasat, with a view to exploring new ways to distribute content according to the blog. Meanwhile, Broadpeak sales VP Arnault Lannuzel commented that creativity and additional services are required to make hybrid TV a success.
