DTH Satellite was Number-One TV Reception Infrastructure in Germany in 2016

DTH satellite is the TV infrastructure with the highest level of coverage in Germany with a 46% share. According to the latest Astra TV Monitor, 17.6 million of the 38.3 million TV households in Germany received their programmes via satellite in 2016. This was followed by television reception via cable with 43% (16.6 million), digital terrestrial television with 5% (1.8 million) and IPTV with 6% (2.3 million).

Meanwhile, 59% (22.5 million) of television households received their programmes in HD quality. The lion’s share was accounted for by satellites at 55% (11.4 million), followed by cable with 39% (9.4 million) and IPTV with 6% (2.52 million). Terrestrial appeared in the HD statistics for the first time with 1.44 million users, as Germany has adopted DVB-T2 to support higher resolutions. There was no increase in the number of those paying for the HD+ service.

By the end of 2017, more than 5.5 million UHD televisions will be in Germany’s TV households.

The survey of a total of 6,000 households across Germany took place at the end of 2016.
