Free, a French company, has launched the ‘Freebox Mini 4k’ – a gateway/set-top box that runs Android TV and can play UltraHD content. It consists of two units: a server and a player. The player is a STB supporting HEVC content, with access to the Play Store. It is based on a 1.5GHz ARM Cortex-A15 dual-core processor. The server is a gateway box supporting ADSL2+, VDSL2 and FTTH broadband access, as well as providing a Wi-Fi network. The box is available now and costs €30 a month.
