Digital Projection is All Laser

Digital Projection (DPI) focuses on high-end installation projectors – several years ago, the company surprised us with its first LED model. This year, all of the projectors on the stand used laser illumination except one: a four-lamp model introduced at InfoComm 2015.

Although DPI mostly looks at the 3DLP market, it also produces some smaller 1DLP models. This year, two of its newest projectors were 1DLP: the E-Vision 6500 (6,500 lumens) and 8500 (8,500 lumens).

The only differences between these models are their brightness levels and lenses. The E-Vision 8500 can use a new ultra-short throw lens that DPI has developed – another first for the company. This gives the projector a 0.38:1 throw ratio and can throw images up to 7.5m wide.

Both projectors have 1920 x 1200 resolution, a 4,000:1 contrast ratio and HDMI, MHL-HDMI, VGA, powered USB, USB-B, RJ45 and RS232 (in and out) ports. DPI will launch the E-Vision 6500 in April, and is selling the 8500 now.

Only one other projector was ‘new’: the Insight 4k Laser (Digital Projection Wows CEDIA with Insight 4K Projectors), which had been updated. In May, the projector will be able to show UltraHD content at 60fps via HDMI and DisplayPort. A tone-mapping function will also be added.
