At Computex, Asus announced the Swift PG35VQ, a new monitor in the ROG gaming line. The 3440 x 1440 (21:9) curved (1800R) monitor has not only a 200Hz refresh rate, but also uses quantum dots to allow support of the DCI-P3 colour gamut and 1,000 cd/m² of brightness, using 512 direct backlight LEDs. However, the monitor won’t ship until Q4 2017 so pricing has not yet been set.
The Acer Z35P uses the same size and resolution of panel and is also aimed at gamers, but doesn’t offer the 200Hz refresh rate and limits brightness to 300 cd/m². The Z35P supports 100Hz using DisplayPort and 50Hz via HDMI and is claimed to have a 4ms response time with 2,500:1 native contrast and 100% sRGB. The stand is height adjustable and there are dual 9W speakers. The monitor will ship from next month and will sell for £999 in the UK ($1,070 + tax).
Analyst Comment
The Asus uses the panel that is from AUO (although AUO at SID wasn’t aware of it!) that we saw at CES and has been developed with Nvidia to support PC HDR. Pricing is likely to be pretty high, considering where the Acer monitor has been set. (BR)
