Following the final approval last month by the European Commission of Liberty Global’s acquisition of Dutch cable operator Ziggo, the Commission has appointed a monitoring trustee to oversee the transaction.
CompetitionRx, a London-based company which specialises in overseeing the implementation of antitrust compliance programmes, will monitor whether Liberty Global adheres to the conditions set out by the EC when it approved the deal. This includes the requirement for Liberty Global to sell its premium movie channel Film1, promising to maintain access for over-the-top operators such as Netflix and pledging not to discriminate against rivals that buy its content (Display Monitor Vol 21 No 40).
