LG Display and Lenovo Collaborating on Foldable OLED Tablet PC?

Industry sources have revealed to ET News that LG Display and Lenovo are joining forces to market a foldable tablet PC with a 13″ OLED display. “The two firms have recently signed a non-disclosure agreement. They have officially started the development project with aims to launch the device later next year,” one source said.

Another commented, “LG Display may have considered diverse factors like efficiency and marketability when they decided to go for a 13″ foldable panel.”

However, ET News surmises that, due to its relatively large size when folded, the device in question isn’t likely to have dual function as a smartphone like the foldable OLED devices that Samsung and Huawei are bringing to market. Other sources told the publication that LG Display has an altogether different take on foldable display technology, predicting it will “renew competition” in the tablet PC market more so than the smartphone market.

Earlier this week, it was reported that Samsung CEO DJ Koh reassured attendees at a recent launch event that the company’s foldable smartphone was not “a gimmick product”.
