Huawei to Announce Foldable Smartphone Before the End of 2018?

According to ET News, Huawei is developing a foldable smartphone for a November reveal, apparently hoping to steal Samsung’s thunder. Samsung has been working towards releasing its own foldable smartphone for some time but it isn’t expected to enter production until the end of this year. (Samsung Foldable Still On for 2018?)

Samsung’s foldable smartphone concept has been doing the rounds for a while.

Huawei filed a patent for a single-display, foldable smartphone back in September 2017, according to the World Intellectual Property Organisation. LG and ZTE have also applied for similar patents, though their foldable offerings features two separate screens that join in the centre. Oppo and Lenovo are also believed to be throwing their hats into the foldable smartphone ring. Lenovo’s device is reportedly headed for a 2019 release and features a 7.8″ display that can fold in to a 5.5″ size.

Apple is also reportedly planning its own foldable handset but isn’t thought to be coming any time soon. (Apple to Launch Foldable OLED Smartphone in 2020?)
