For the first time, the French Open tennis tournament is being filmed for a virtual reality audience. France Télévision’s RG Lab is recording certain live matches in 360° UltraHD, with an avatar creation booth and Web3D technology. France’s VideoStitch provided the technology for the event, including the Orah 4i Live Spherical VR Camera, which was launched at NAB. Digital processing was handled by FireKast.
In related news, Eurosport launched a VR app to coincide with the tournament, which will also be used for other events throughout the year.
