ViewSonic Eliminates Tearing

Having shown off its new gaming and multimedia displays at CES (Digital Experience Has Lots to See), ViewSonic has presented them to the market, sharing prices and specs. Both the XG (gaming) and VX57-MHD (multimedia) products feature low input lag and AMD’s FreeSync anti-tearing technology.

Two monitors were introduced in the XG line: the XG2401 and XG2700-4K. Both have black stabilisation, raising contrast to reveal detail in dark areas. They also share a blue light filter, flicker-free backlight, adjustable stand, headphone hook and dual speakers. Different panel technologies, however, provide strengths in different areas.

The XG2401 is a 24″ TN model, with a fast (144Hz) refresh rate and 1ms response time. SmartSync technology will automatically choose the optimum refresh rate and response time for gaming. Display resolution is 1920 x 1080, contrast is 1,000:1 and viewing angles are 170°/160°. Brightness reaches 350 cd/m². DisplayPort, HDMI (x2), USB 3.0 (x2) and USB-B ports are featured. The monitor can tilt between -5° and 22°, swivel 175° and pivot 90°. It is height-adjustable to 120mm.

IPS technology is used on the 27″ XG2700-4K. Due to its UltraHD resolution, this model supports picture-in- and picture-by-picture functionality to show up to four 1920 x 1080 video sources at once. Although response time is slower (5ms), colour reproduction is more detailed, reaching up to 10-bit. Viewing angles are 178° and contrast is 1,000:1.

The 27″ display features DisplayPort, Mini DisplayPort, MHL-HDMI (x2, one carrying UltraHD at 60fps), USB 3.0 (x4) and USB-B ports. It has the same adjustable stand as the XG2401, with the exception of tilting back to 15°.

ViewSonic will begin to ship the XG2401 in mid-April for $400, and the XG2700-4K in late April for $850.

All of the multimedia monitors share features. They have black stabilisation, pre-calibrated (for gaming) and user-customised settings, integrated speakers, a blue light filter and flicker-free backlight. Each uses a TN panel.

The VX2257-mhd is 21.5″; the VX2457-mhd is 23.6″; and the VX2757-mhd is 27″. They have 1920 x 1080 resolution, 170°/160° viewing angles and a 2ms (grey-to-grey) response time. The monitors can tilt between -5° and 23°.

Brightness is 250 cd/m² on the VX2257 and 300 cd/m² on the VX2457 and VX2757. Both smaller models share a 1,000:1 contrast ratio, while the 27″ has 1,200:1.

Each of the multimedia displays is available now. They cost $180 (VX2257), $210 (VX2457) and $300 (VX2757).
