A high-resolution 7″ field monitor has been released by Video Devices, as the largest model in the company’s PIX-E series.
Although its own display resolution is 1920 x 1200, the PIX-E7 can be used to record content at resolutions up to DCI-4k, at 30fps, or 1920 x 1080 at 120fps. Like the PIX-E5 and PIX-E5H, the unit is compatible with the USB-based SpeedDrive a custom-made enclosure that holds an mSATA SSD.
As well as physical buttons, the display has a touch screen. It can record all available Apple ProRes codecs, up to 4444 XQ 12-bit. External timecode is also accepted via a BNC connection. 6G-SDI (x2) and HDMI inputs are featured, as well as 3G-SDI and HDMI.
Monitoring tools, such as TapZoom for focusing speed; false colours and zebras to help set exposure; and a range of scopes are built in. Several manufacturer-specific standard lookup tables are installed, and custom LUTs may also be used via SD card or SpeedDrive.
Display brightness is 500 cd/m², with an IPS panel with a 1,000:1 contrast ratio and 178° viewing angles.
Video Devices is selling the product worldwide now, for $1,600.
