Valve Offers New Lenses

Valve has been involved with VR by working with HTC on its Vive headset and has also been developing the SteamVR platform. The company has now developed lenses that work with standard displays for VR, whether based on OLED or LCD displays. The lenses are claimed to offer the best visual experiences with field of view supported from 85º to 120º. Valve has developed what it says is unique calibration and correction software to match current off-the-shelf VR displays.

Jeremy Selan of Valve said:

“World class VR requires highly precise tracking, matched optics and display technologies, and a software stack that weaves together the interactions between these components. For the first time, we’re making all of these technologies available to anyone who wants to build a best in class VR system for the millions of Steam customers accessing over 2,000 SteamVR compatible titles.”
