V-Nova, based in London and developer of the Perseus codec, has bought the ‘full global patent portfolio’ of Faroudja Enterprises Inc, founded by Yves Faroudja. The key patents for V-Nova are those that can be used to pre-process the video content before compression. V-Nova said that the main patent groups are:
- The Faroudja pre-processor (for use prior to compression) and post-processor (after compression decoding).
- Techniques for video enhancement such as multidimensional video processing
- The use of a unique support layer in parallel with the conventional compression path
