City, University of London has teamed up with ARuVR, an Extended Reality (XR) training platform, to provide its technology and expertise to engineering, computer science, and applied mathematics students. The partnership will establish the UK’s largest bespoke Augmented Reality (AR), Virtual Reality (VR), and metaverse design training center. The new state-of-the-art facility, funded by the Office for Students (OFS), will open in September 2023 and train up to 50 students simultaneously to become the next generation of ethical tech pioneers in the field of augmented and virtual reality. The university feels that the development of skills in VR and AR, as well as the metaverse, is a key skill shortage, and the new facility is a direct response to demand from the university’s industry and business partners seeking advanced skills in this sector.
The collaboration with ARuVR is meant to give students an enterprise AR and VR rapid application building platform. Beyond the technology, ARuVR will provide expertise, guidance, and real-world industry experience to support the students’ progress. In addition to the training platform, ARuVR will supply complete AR/VR hardware solutions, jointly fund a PhD student, provide consultancy for trainer development, and offer practical work placements for students. The training platform enables students to produce immersive content and enables trainers to engage with multiple students at once, creating a unique learning experience.
