UK TV Viewing Down as Generation Gap Widens

Ofcom’s annual public service broadcasting report shows that TV viewing is, on average, down by 26 minutes per day in the UK since 2010, and that there is a growing gap in viewing habits between generations. Those under 25 watch about 25% less broadcast TV than in 2010 (16-24 year-olds have ’embraced’ on-demand services), while 55-64 year-olds watch about 5% less. About 60% of adults now use on-demand services, rising to 70% among 15-24s and 25-34s. Public service broadcasters accounted for about 51% of all broadcast TV viewing in 2015, down from 70% in 2005.
