What They Say

Belgian video technology company Theo Technologies sent us a press release that highlighted its hesp (High Efficiency Streaming Protocol) HTTP-based real-time video streaming infrastructure that reaches sub-second latency at scale. Latency for the system is claimed at around 400ms and the firm believes that this level of latency will enable new interactive streaming applications in sports, betting, auctioning, gaming and live events.

The HESP Alliance has eight members but the names didn’t mean much to us.

What We Think

The details of this technology are a bit outside my expertise area, but I have long complained about latency, especially in sports streaming. Theo believes that it has a solution to this and it says that the key advantages it has is that its architecture is scaleable and can exploit CDNs when other solutions can be quick but are hard to scale.
