Spanish Subsidies Were Illegal, Says EU Court

The European General Court has upheld a 2013 decision by the European Commission, which declared Spanish DTT subsidies illegal (Display Monitor Vol 20 No 42). Several DTT network operators in the country received funding from the government, to provide digital TV access to rural areas, in 2005. However, the EC declared that the allocation of these subsidies violated the principle of technology neutrality, as only DTT operators could be involved in the tender.
