Sony Highlights Projection and Laser Sources

At Sony, we looked at the VPL-FHZ60 and VPL-FHZ60 projectors which are laser-based projectors using the 3LCD imaging and laser-phosphor to create a full range of colour. Sony talked at SID about what it can do to improve the lifetime of this kind of material (Sony Describes New Laser Phosphor Projector Improvements) and these projectors are rated for a life of 20,000 hours. The projectors were introduced at ISE (Sony Invests in Lasers)

The VPL-T270 and VPL-T280 projectors also use laser phosphor light sources for long life, but use Sony’s DCI/4K SXRD imagers. The two versions are slightly different in target market and technically. One has 120Hz refresh rate and a more limited gamut, but is intended for visual simulation applications. The second version has a broader gamut (said to be up to 86% of Rec. 2020) and supports just 4K60P and is aimed at digital cinema use. Two of the 4K projectors were being used to create a single blended 8K image that reacted to the movement of viewers that approached the image.

On the side of the booth was the latest range of digital signage display.
