As a test of VR, NOS of Portugal showed in VR a soccer match between FC Porto and Benfica, at the Estádio do Dragão in Porto. Customers who saw the broadcast were in the Samsung store at the Fórum Almada and at the Nos theatre in the Shopping Colombo centre in Lisbon. Five cameras were used to provide a 360º view of the stadium and viewers were able to use Samsung Gear VR headsets to watch. The match was transmitted over fibre and a network and used 300Mbps of dedicated capacity.
No details on the live encoding were given by Sport TV, which managed the broadcast. Samsung Portugal was involved with the project.
